Offshore Outsourcing

When a business needs certain functions performed in a country other than the one in which it is located, the practice is referred to as offshore outsourcing. In many instances, a company needs to develop or manufacture products and services in another country in order to reduce costs and remain competitive.
Why do companies choose offshore outsourcing?
One of the main reasons a company chooses to outsource to another country is to reduce costs. If they choose to operate in a country where the cost of living and average wage is lower, it may reduce its overall operating expenses.
Common types of outsourcing
While many different types of business may choose to outsource, there are several industries where this is more common. Areas such as customer service, information technology and manufacturing are more amenable to outsourcing, as these services are easier for other countries to deliver.
Types of offshore outsourcing
There are four standard types of offshore outsourcing. These include information technology outsourcing (ITO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), business process outsourcing (BPO) and software research and development (software R&D). ITO is used by technology companies. BPO refers to call centers and insurance claims processing. Software R&D revolves around developing software overseas and KPO covers areas that require skilled labor, such as accounting and investment research.
Some people look into offshore outsourcing for their own company's needs, while others are waiting to get a clearer picture of the cost-benefit ratio. There are many potential rewards for businesses that choose to utilize outsourcing, especially when it comes to saving money.
